Corestone

FAQ

Nothing appears in Discord

  1. Look at the console. With no address set, CoreStatus says "No webhook address is set". Paste the address and run /corestatus reload. The status message appears within a few seconds. "Server started" is sent only when the server starts, not on a reload.
  2. Run /corestatus test. It says for every webhook whether Discord took the message.
  3. HTTP 401 or HTTP 404 mean the address is wrong or the webhook was deleted in Discord. Copy it again, paste it, run /corestatus reload.
  4. Check status.enabled. On a proxy, check network.enabled: it is false until you turn it on.
  5. Check the console for a line starting with config.yml:. It names a key whose value could not be used.

Why is the interval at least 30 seconds?

Discord limits how fast a message can be edited. A faster interval would only make Discord answer "slow down". A value below 30 is raised to 30.

Is a new message posted at every restart?

No. CoreStatus edits the same message. Its id is saved in plugins/CoreStatus/data.yml. If the message was deleted in Discord, one new message is posted. If you change the webhook address, a new message is posted at the new address and the old one stays where it was.

If you copy the whole plugins/CoreStatus folder to another server, delete data.yml there. Otherwise both servers edit the same message.

Can two servers use the same webhook?

Yes, each one then keeps its own message in the channel. Give each server its own title (status.title) so you can tell them apart.

Can the join messages go to another channel?

Yes. Create a second webhook in that channel and put it in join-leave.webhook. The same works for start-stop.webhook and low-tps.webhook. An empty one uses status.webhook.

Does it need a Discord bot?

No. CoreStatus only uses webhooks. There is no bot token, no account to create and nothing to host.

Are player names sent to Discord?

Yes, by default. The status lists up to 10 nicknames (status.show.player-list: 10). To turn the list off, set status.show.player-list to 0. The join and leave messages name players too, but they are off by default (join-leave.enabled: false). Players in vanish are left out of both. With the list set to 0 and the join and leave messages off, no nickname leaves your server.

Does CoreStatus send anything else?

No. There is no telemetry and no update check. The only connections are to the webhook addresses in your config.

The TPS shows a dash on my network

The proxy cannot measure the TPS of a server. It gets it from CoreStatus on that server, through a player. Check that:

  • CoreStatus is installed on the backend server, not only on the proxy.
  • At least one player is online on that backend server. Without a player nothing can be sent, and the proxy shows a dash.
  • The id of the server in network.servers is the name the proxy uses for it. A server the proxy does not know is left out of the message completely, and the console says so once.
  • The interval on the backend (status.interval-seconds) is not more than twice network.interval-seconds on the proxy.

There is no MSPT line

Only Paper and Purpur measure milliseconds per tick. On Folia and Spigot the line is left out.

What does "Server was offline since" mean?

The server stopped without saying goodbye (a crash, a killed process, a power cut). On the next start CoreStatus posts the time of its last sign of life, then "Server started". A normal stop never causes it. This needs start-stop.enabled.

How do I turn off the "Status by Corestone" line?

Set footer: false in config.yml and run /corestatus reload.

How do I change the language or a text?

Set language: pl (or en) and reload. To change single texts, see Changing the texts.

I pasted the webhook address in a public place

Delete that webhook in Discord (channel settings, Integrations, Webhooks) and create a new one. Anyone who has the address can post in your channel.

Where is the config on Velocity?

In plugins/CoreStatus/config.yml, as on every other platform.

Does CoreStatus slow down the server?

It reads the player list and the TPS once per interval on the server thread (on Spigot and Folia a very small task also counts the ticks). Files and Discord are handled on other threads. A slow or unreachable Discord never holds up the server, including when it stops.

Where do I get help?

On the Corestone Discord. More about Corestone is on corestone.dev. When you ask, include your server software and version and the output of /corestatus status. Never post a webhook address.
